End of Chapter 2 (reading and animation assignment)

Shopping Safely Online!

- From reading the rest of chapter two shopping safely was something that i decided to talk about. When shopping online in can be safe in a way. You have the opportunity to view pictures, details, and prices for the product you are looking for. It gives you the chance to compare prices and products. However, there are risks such as not knowing who runs the business and if it could be a scam. There are ways to avoid this although and shop safely. When you purchase a product you should make sure it a well know company that would use your information or give it away. Companies that are reliable would be just about any companies that you have heard of for example best buy, Barnes and Noble, and Sears. If you find products cheaper or better in quality on a web site you are unfamiliar with then you should be aware of the risks. In that case it would be best if you used a PayPal account or deal with them in a safe payment method. Never send a credit card number to someone through email it would be most likely it could be unsecured. Shopping online can be enjoyable as long as your sure that there are no risks of credit card fraud. And by following these steps it can help you shop safely online.

- In the picture below shows how you know that your web page is secured. If you see the internet lock in the corner of the web page your information is safe. This is called the SSL- Secure Sockets Layer. Using the secure connection ensures your information is safe.

Saving a Web Page Image

When people browse the web they may come across a image they like but people should be careful what the are saving. You do not want to get in trouble with the law for copy right. Copy right is taking an image that belongs to another person and using it as if its your own unless you ask for permission from the original user who published that image. But some images are used in the public domain and they may be used freely. But you should provide where you located the image from just in case.

In order to save an image you can right click on the image. There will be a menu that shows up with different options choose the option that you desire. With this image you have the opportunity to set this picture to your background or even use it for a website you want. Saving pictures is fun because you are able to share them with your friends and family. Now that your able to save an image have fun and show your friends how to do it also.

Web Browsers

Web browser is a program we use in order to access and view web pages. Many people have different web browsers based on certain likes and dislikes. Some people choose to use internet explorer because it is already installed on to most computers when you buy them. But other people choose to use Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and etc. but they all do the same thing. Like most people in todays time they know how to use computers more than there parents or grandparents. But i am going to locate some of the basics you need to know about internet explorer. In the graphic i used red arrows to point to certain points in the web browser that are important. I located the title bar, status bar, address bar, scroll bar, title bar, tabs, and minimize, maximize and close. This will give someone who has not used a web browser a better understanding of how to locate certain things. The web browser is an important part of the internet and people should pick one that they are most conferable  using because if its hard to use then it could be hard for you to learn. I recommend that all beginners use internet explorer to start. Hopefully from the image it will help people learn the basics of a web browser.

This link will show you the top ten ranked web browsers and will give you the opportunity to download the one you fell most comfortable using. http://internet-browser-review.toptenreviews.com/

Web Pages

Web sites are there to attract people attention and get them to browse other pages on the web site. When we see web pages online such as yahoo.com there are articles, pictures, news, and ads that catch our attention. And that the purpose is catch the viewers attention. All websites consist of common characteristics new web pages are added daily or even different graphics change. But i believe we do not look at these this i feel like we just want to get to the web pages we enjoy visiting. Do you know a web site that is different from any other that has no ads, no logos, no links? I feel like all website use all the same layout such as logos, advertising, links, and images.

The image below shows how the web site is laid out and how most web sites are similar in the certain content and layout they use.
This link will show you web site that are good and some that are bad:

Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality has become an issue in todays time and many companys wonder if it could effect them in the long run. There is concern that the internet service providers want to block certain things on the internet and charge uses to view this content. We should be worried about this situation because who knows how much information could be blocked and what would we do? Do you think people will actually pay money to view certain material or information? This questions remained unanswered because this issue hasnt really happened yet. What is happening right now with this situation is that we wonder if someone is going to actually enforce this law. If it is infored it could effect us in todays life because people who use common websites like facebook and google could eventually have to pay money to use the sites. Some organization are fighting this like AT&T and Verizon because there making money of these idea right now by charging people to use the internet on their phones and also so companys now only allow people to use a certain amont of data on the internet and if they want more they need to pay more money. This is a problem because they are enforcing neutrality and trying not to get people to notice. Its common in the application we buy for or IPhones or Blackberry they want to charge us money to use the facebook apps or the youtube apps. This goes to show that the ideas of net neutrailty are already being inforced in a way and we dont know about it. But if it actually becomes an enforced law it could affect these companys because their making money off this idea already and maybe the internet provides wouldnt allow them to do these this anymore because the could say they want certain material free and some to be bought.

This image shows that people will have to pay every month to see the rest of the material on the poster and could this effect us? Its a situation some people wanna support and some are concerned about but who knows what will happen we just gotta wait and see.

Chapter 1

After reading the first chapter of Discovering the Internet it showed me that there is so much more to the internet then what i learned. I have had some knowledge with web design and networking from my high school classes that i had taken but many terms were common to me. What i found interesting though was how many different kinds of internet connections are out there such as the WIFI, LAN, DSN and much more. The pricing behind these were not cheap but if you think about it the internet has exploded just about every type of electronic device uses the internet. Such as your cell phone, ipod, laptops, and etc. but my point is in the chapter they said how the internet is so important, its because people us it to communicate with friends, pay bills, buy stuff, look up information there is so many different advantages out there other than the internet but we continue to use it because it give us information in about a second of our time. The history behind the internet was started with ARPANET which was used by the government and lead to internet usage worldwide. I found this to be interesting because i had always wondered how the internet had become so popular in todays time. Finally what i found to be confusing from the reading was there were some abbreviation's i had to look up that i didn't know the meanings of like FTP which is File Transfer Protocol and TCP but from learning these it helped me better understanding. And from this chapter i learned a lot about how internet started, evolved, and where it has gotten today.

The image above represented the ARPANET- Which stands for Advanced Research Project Agency. The ARPA was the first internet started by Charles M. Herzfeld. The internet has grown very large and we all seem to be using it today.
